Hastings United secured a late comeback to defeat Sheppey United and maintain their position alongside South Park at the top of the Division One South East table on Saturday.

The first half featured few significant scoring opportunities as both teams struggled to find a breakthrough, ending the period goalless. Hastings began the second half with greater intensity, but it was Sheppey who opened the scoring. On his home debut, Oghosa Williams capitalized on a cross from captain Danny Leonard to put the hosts ahead.

The goal appeared to galvanize Hastings, who responded swiftly. Substitute Freddie Legg equalized, and just two minutes later, Kesna Clarke gave the visitors the lead with a well-taken strike. The quick succession of goals turned the match in Hastings’ favor, securing three points for the East Sussex side.

Sheppey pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages, with Williams hitting the crossbar in the final minute, but the effort fell short. Tom Chalmers was notable for his performance on the Hastings side, contributing significantly to their late surge.

The result ensures Hastings remain in contention at the summit of the table as the season progresses.
