The Ministry of Health’s Health Promotion Department launched a breast cancer awareness campaign in Kuwait City on Thursday, aiming to enhance early detection and encourage regular self-examinations among women. The campaign kickoff event featured the inauguration of an exhibition by Dr. Ahmed Al-Lafi, Dean of the College of Life Sciences at Kuwait University, alongside Dr. Abeer Al-Bahwa, Director of the Health Promotion Department, and her team.

Dr. Al-Bahwa noted that the exhibition marks the start of a series of activities planned for various locations across Kuwait throughout October. The campaign focuses on educating women about recognizing early signs of breast cancer, such as painless breast lumps, changes in skin color, lumps in the armpit, and the significance of genetic risk factors, including a family history of the disease.

Emphasizing the importance of prompt medical consultation, Dr. Al-Bahwa advised women who detect any symptoms to seek professional evaluation. She recommended women begin mammogram screenings at age 30, with follow-up tests every three years if initial results are normal. From age 40 onward, she suggested annual mammograms, complemented by regular self-examinations to aid in early identification.

The Health Ministry’s initiative underscores ongoing efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and improve health outcomes through timely diagnosis and intervention.
