Kuwait City is experiencing significant traffic congestion during the morning rush hour as maintenance work continues on several major roads leading into the capital, officials said. Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bouhasan, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the Operations and Traffic Sector, attributed the heavy traffic on November 1 to ongoing repairs on the Fourth Ring Road, which has diverted many motorists onto the Fifth Ring Road as an alternate route.
Speaking on Kuwait Television’s “Good Morning, Kuwait” program, Lieutenant Colonel Bouhasan urged drivers to monitor traffic updates through the Ministry of Interior’s official channels to better plan their trips and avoid the most congested areas, particularly during peak hours.
With the winter season approaching and rainfall becoming more frequent, the official emphasized the importance of vehicle safety and cautious driving in changing weather conditions. He advised motorists to inspect their tyres and ensure their front and rear windscreen wipers are in working order. The use of vehicle defogging systems was recommended to maintain clear visibility. He also stressed the need to maintain a safe distance between vehicles on wet roads to reduce accident risks, reminding drivers to respect speed limits and avoid using hazard warning lights while driving, as this can confuse other road users about a vehicle's intended movements.
Lieutenant Colonel Bouhasan called on all drivers to adopt responsible driving habits and comply with traffic regulations as weather conditions deteriorate. He urged regular checks on essential vehicle components such as brakes, lights, and tyres to ensure roadworthiness during periods of reduced visibility.
Additionally, he highlighted pedestrian safety by encouraging the use of designated crossings and requested that motorists remain alert in areas with high foot traffic.
Addressing outdoor activities common in Kuwait, particularly desert camping known as “kashtat”, the officer recommended that campers avoid setting up close to main roads and highways and discouraged parking along busy thoroughfares. He also advised off-road motorcyclists to refrain from using public roads and to conduct their activities in designated safe zones.
To stay informed on traffic developments, road closures, and diversions, Lieutenant Colonel Bouhasan encouraged all road users to follow updates posted on the Ministry of Interior’s official social media platforms.
