The partnership between HEC Paris and Qatar Foundation is playing a significant role in fostering closer ties between Qatar and France through executive education, according to HEC Paris alumnus Salman Shaban. The collaboration aims to develop globally minded leaders, strengthen professional networks, and transform business knowledge into opportunities for innovation and economic growth.
Shaban emphasized that the partnership serves as a practical mechanism to enhance bilateral relations by bringing together professionals from various cultural and professional backgrounds. This exchange of ideas, he noted, builds relationships based on tolerance and diversity, contributing to connections that extend beyond educational settings into wider business and community environments in Qatar, France, and internationally.
Highlighting the broader impact of the program, Shaban described alumni as critical links between education and economic development. He pointed to the international alumni network facilitated by Qatar Foundation, which has enabled ongoing interaction through events held in cities such as Paris, Singapore, Dubai, Doha, Shanghai, London, and Boston. These gatherings have helped promote cross-border collaboration and discussions on executive education, leadership impact, and sustainable business practices on global platforms.
In his various roles within HEC Paris, including as a member of the Selection Committee and as a Capstone Advisor and Jury member, Shaban has developed insights into the essential qualities future leaders require. He identified adaptability as vital, given the rapid evolution of markets and technology, alongside cross-cultural fluency to effectively build trust and work across diverse backgrounds. Additionally, he stressed the importance of a commitment to sustainable and responsible business, confidence to translate ideas into action, and humility to continue learning.
Beyond leadership development, Shaban highlighted the partnership’s potential to support Qatar’s economic diversification efforts by linking learners with research centers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and opportunities for mentorship and incubation. He cited examples of alumni who have collaborated to launch businesses, develop new technologies, explore international markets, and introduce innovative concepts within Qatar.
Shaban, who recently received the inaugural Qatar Foundation Alumni Mentorship Award while representing HEC Paris, expressed that professional achievements should be coupled with a dedication to helping others achieve their potential. He described the experience with HEC Paris in Qatar as joining a community larger than a traditional business school, where education fosters not only qualifications but also ideas, partnerships, and ventures.
As Qatar continues to invest in innovation and economic diversification, the HEC Paris–Qatar Foundation partnership exemplifies how educational collaborations can contribute to building a sustainable and interconnected global business environment.
