Connor Hellebuyck, the goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets, remains under contract with the team through the 2030-31 NHL season after signing an eight-year extension worth $59.5 million in October 2023. The 33-year-old from Commerce Township, Michigan, carries a $8.5 million salary cap hit.

Hellebuyck has been a key figure for the Jets, having backstopped the team to the NHL’s best record during the 2024-25 season. That year, he earned the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player and claimed his third Vezina Trophy, awarded to the top goaltender. Over his tenure with Winnipeg, he has appeared in over 625 games, accumulating a 345-208-55 record, a 2.58 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage, and 45 shutouts. He previously won the Vezina Trophy in 2020 and 2024.

However, Hellebuyck’s performance in the most recent season was more subdued, recording a 23-23-11 record in 57 games with a 2.86 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage. Despite the uneven NHL season, he played a pivotal role for the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, making 41 saves to secure a 2-1 victory over Canada in the gold medal game.

Hellebuyck also attracted public attention following the Olympics when he attended a White House reception hosted by then-President Donald Trump honoring the American hockey team. During the event, Trump announced that Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The goalie later addressed criticism he and his family faced due to his appearance at the reception, expressing regret over the backlash targeted at his wife, Andrea, and other family members. In March, Hellebuyck stated that while he did not regret attending, he found the personal attacks on his family unfair and said he intended to move forward from the controversy.

In a broader NHL context, Hellebuyck represents one of several prominent American players who have maintained their commitment to Canadian teams amid recent departures by notable U.S. players such as Brady Tkachuk from Ottawa, Matthew Tkachuk from Calgary, and Quinn Hughes from Vancouver. With his long-term contract in place, Hellebuyck is poised to continue his role as a key presence for Winnipeg in the coming seasons.
