Bassem Hemeida secured the gold medal for Qatar in the men’s 400 meters hurdles at the 2026 Asian Games held in Nagoya, Japan. Competing at the Paloma Mizuho Sports Park athletics stadium on Monday, Hemeida completed the race in 47.82 seconds to claim the top spot on the podium.

This victory marks an improvement for Hemeida compared to his performance at the previous edition of the Games in Hangzhou in 2022, where he earned the silver medal in the same event. His win comes in the absence of fellow Qatari and defending champion Abderrahman Samba, who was unable to participate due to injury.

The 2026 Asian Games, officially known as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, have brought together top athletes from across the continent to compete in a range of sports.
