Trainer Mick Price has confirmed that Guest House will contest the $1 million Group I Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, dispelling earlier concerns about the three-year-old colt’s fitness. The son of Home Affairs, who is the reigning Golden Slipper winner and Australia’s most valuable racehorse, is expected to enhance his reputation with a strong performance in the 1400-meter event, which is regarded as a key race in establishing future stallion prospects.

Guest House opened his three-year-old campaign with a dominant, track-record-breaking victory in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes just under four weeks ago. However, the demanding effort left the colt feeling the effects in the days following the race, leading to some initial uncertainty over his readiness for the Golden Rose.

Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jr., indicated that while Guest House showed some stiffness after the San Domenico Stakes, the issues were manageable and the team remained committed to targeting the Golden Rose. “We were never bypassing this race,” Price said. After early concerns on the Sunday and the following Wednesday, the colt was sent to Mount White for further treatment, including sessions on a treadmill water walker, which contributed to a swift recovery.

On Saturday morning at Rosehill Gardens, Guest House completed a workout that Price rated a “10 out of 10,” highlighting the colt’s condition and sharpness. Final preparations are scheduled for Tuesday, when race-day jockey Zac Lloyd will ride Guest House in a gallop over the course proper. Price emphasized that the training gallop is designed to simulate the building effort needed for Saturday’s 1400-meter race, noting that the colt “is perfect” and showing continuous improvement through each furlong.

Price, regarded as one of Australia’s top trainers, compared Guest House to some of his previous elite colts, including Golden Slipper winners Extreme Choice, Flying Artie, and Jacquinot. He described Guest House as possessing “as much, if not more, natural capacity” than any he has trained, calling him the standout of his career.

With strong form and a solid buildup to the Golden Rose, Guest House is positioned to extend his winning streak and bolster his future value as a stallion in Australia’s competitive racing industry.
