India captain Shreyas Iyer was awarded the Impact Player of the Series medal following the conclusion of the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, which ended in a 2-2 draw after the final match was abandoned due to rain at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

The medal presentation took place in the Indian dressing room, where training assistant Nuwan Seneviratne handed the award to Iyer. During the ceremony, Seneviratne highlighted Iyer’s milestone of scoring his first T20I century in the series opener, recognizing him as one of the few Indian men’s cricketers to have recorded hundreds in all three international formats. He also praised Iyer for his leadership and fielding contributions throughout the series.

Iyer was a key performer for India, accumulating 181 runs across five innings at an average of 45.25 and a strike rate of 205.68. His century came in the opening match in Lucknow, marking a significant personal achievement and boosting India’s performance in the series. India secured victory in the first and third games, while the West Indies won the second and fourth matches, leveling the series before rain prevented a decisive final contest.

With the series drawn, both teams shared the trophy. India now prepares for a five-match T20 series against New Zealand, starting with back-to-back games on October 22 and 24 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed satisfaction with his team’s renewed confidence and aggressive approach throughout the series, remarking that the team’s “swagger is back.” Sammy attributed the improved mindset to performances at the recent World Cup that restored the team’s belief in their potential and consistency.

In other West Indies news, Shamar Springer has been added to the squad for their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, replacing seam-bowling all-rounder Keemo Paul, who will return home for personal and family reasons, according to an official statement from Cricket West Indies.
