North Queensland Cowboys forward Coen Hess is set to become the club’s latest life member when he takes the field for his 200th game on Saturday. The milestone will place Hess among an exclusive group of just 12 players to have reached double figures in appearances for the club.

Hess, who debuted as a 19-year-old, made an immediate impact by scoring a try during a commanding 50-16 victory over the Warriors. Throughout his career, he has established himself as a key figure both on and off the field.

Cowboys head coach Todd Payten praised Hess’s development and contributions to the team. “I’ve had the good fortune of seeing him and coaching him since he was a boy, really, and I’ve watched him turn into a man,” Payten said. “He’s played Origin, he’s played in the grand final. He’s become a real leader within our club and he provides the energy for our group day to day.”

Payten also highlighted Hess’s character and professionalism, noting his strong work ethic and positive influence within the club environment. “He’s got a great sense of humour and his work ethic in and around the building is first class,” Payten added. “He’s an important part of what we do and it’s an opportunity for us to repay him with a performance on the weekend.”

The Cowboys are preparing to host the Dolphins in what has been billed as a Queensland Day blockbuster. The team may welcome back several players for the match, including Reuben Cotter, who was rested shortly after the State of Origin series. Tom Mikaele has also been named to start after recovering from an injury sustained in round 13 against the Raiders. Meanwhile, utility player Soni Luke is set to return from injury, pending final clearance expected after a fitness check on Thursday. Reserve player Xavier Kerrisk is named but is not expected to take the field.

Saturday’s game represents a significant moment for Hess as he reaches a personal career milestone and is formally recognized for his ongoing contributions to the North Queensland Cowboys.
