The Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote has raised concerns about the safety of the Hindu community in the lead-up to Durga Puja celebrations and the forthcoming Union Parishad elections. At a press conference held on October 2 at the Jatiya Press Club, the organization highlighted a series of security challenges facing Hindus, including attacks on temples, vandalism of idols, and threats against community members in various districts.

Palash Kanti Dey, the group’s executive secretary and spokesperson, said these incidents have heightened fears and prompted some Hindus to consider emigrating. He called for enhanced security measures and impartial investigations into recent deaths within the community to restore confidence and ensure justice.

Dey recounted that Hindu religious sites and followers have frequently been targeted, particularly during religious festivals and election periods. He cited multiple cases this year involving acts of vandalism and intimidation ahead of Durga Puja, one of the most significant Hindu festivals in the region.

Among the incidents cited was the burning death of Dipu Das and the discovery of Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar’s body concealed inside a drum in Mymensingh. According to Dey, 46 members of the Hindu community have been killed or found dead under suspicious circumstances across Bangladesh over the last nine months.

The Mohajote leader urged the government to conduct thorough, unbiased judicial inquiries to clarify whether these fatalities were suicides or deliberate acts of violence. His appeal emphasized the need to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure the safety and rights of the Hindu minority ahead of the upcoming electoral process and religious observances.
