A London man received a suspended jail term after being convicted of causing serious injury by careless driving in a hit-and-run incident. Ram Monk, 30, struck academic Christina Filoche while riding his Ducati superbike at approximately 40 miles per hour in Trafalgar Square. The collision occurred in March, after which Monk fled the scene.

Filoche sustained severe brain injuries as a result of the accident, injuries that have been described as life-changing. Following his arrest, Monk admitted to the charges brought against him.

At Southwark Crown Court, Monk was sentenced to a nine-month prison term, which was suspended. He is from Wandsworth in South West London. The suspended nature of the sentence means he will not serve time in prison unless he commits another offence within a specified period.
