Ella Yam, daughter of Hong Kong actor Simon Yam and former supermodel Qiqi, has graduated from the London School of Economics (LSE) with first-class honours. The 21-year-old shared the news on social media on July 22, highlighting her gratitude for the academic journey and the support from her family.
Ella, the couple’s only child, pursued a degree in sociology with subsidiary mathematics and finance at LSE. She also received the Hobhouse Memorial Prize, awarded to the top undergraduate for the best final-year sociological dissertation, underscoring her academic excellence. Photos posted by Ella on social media showed her in a traditional black graduation gown and cap, alongside a purple evening dress which she designed herself. Both parents attended the ceremony in London.
In her Instagram post, Ella expressed her appreciation for the learning experience and the encouragement she received from her parents, saying she was happy to celebrate the milestone with loved ones. On the Chinese platform Weibo, she thanked her parents for their unconditional support and described the moment as a joyful family highlight.
Simon Yam, 71, also celebrated his daughter’s accomplishment on Weibo, reflecting on her growth and encouraging her to embrace new opportunities. Qiqi, 58, commented on Ella’s Instagram with congratulations on both the first-class honours and the dissertation award.
Ella’s educational background includes attendance at Hong Kong’s Diocesan Girls’ School and Singapore International School in Hong Kong. In addition to her academic pursuits, she has experience modeling for publications such as Vogue Hong Kong and Harper’s BAZAAR HK.
Despite her involvement in the entertainment industry through modeling, Simon Yam previously expressed a desire for his daughter to pursue a career outside of acting, citing the demands of the profession. Yam’s recent acting projects include the Hong Kong action thriller "Under Current" (2025) and the Chinese war drama "Escape From The Outland" (2025).
