A prominent Hollywood actor has revealed candid reflections on his past use of steroids, physical challenges, and personal regrets in a recent interview. Speaking openly about his experiences during the filming of “Rocky III,” he acknowledged the role performance pressures played in his decision to use performance-enhancing substances.
The actor described a period of intense physical obsession, aiming to maintain an extreme level of fitness through a regimen he admitted was unsustainable without chemical assistance. “Nobody does it without additives and drugs,” he stated, explaining that maintaining peak condition for extended stretches required steroid cycles of roughly six weeks on and six weeks off. While he emphasized careful use, he also spoke frankly about the toll it took on his body.
His views on the impact of these choices shifted during his work on “Cop Land,” where his role demanded a departure from the physically demanding characters he had often portrayed. Playing a partially deaf and overweight character offered a sense of liberation from previous self-imposed physical extremes. He expressed regret for the harm he inflicted on his body and reflected on his reluctance to delegate stunts to others. “If I could do it over again, I would say, ‘Let someone else carry the banner and don’t do your own stunts,’” he said.
The actor attributed some of his physical and emotional struggles to a deeply ingrained masochism linked to his upbringing, recalling a formative incident on a polo field where he resisted being broken. Though he framed this as mental resilience, he admitted being physically damaged in the process.
Turning to themes of regret and forgiveness, he acknowledged carrying numerous regrets accumulated over a long career marked by intense pressures and self-absorption. “It’s horrible. It’s the fog of war, the war of trying to succeed,” he said. While he does not claim to have forgiven himself fully, he expressed a willingness to let go of past mistakes and cherish the present moment.
Regarding relationships with his parents, the actor described his feelings as a “delicate peace treaty.” While he stopped short of full forgiveness, he accepted them as they are, suggesting that dwelling on unresolved issues would be counterproductive. “All I can do is cherish every second, because let’s face it, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he concluded.
