Hong Kong actress Eva Lai Yin Shan has shared details about her recent engagement, revealing that her fiancé proposed to her on a beach in Sabah, Malaysia. The 62-year-old, who announced in September that she plans to marry her non-celebrity partner in 2027, described the proposal as a carefully planned and intimate moment. According to Lai, her fiancé, a former businessman nine years older than her, arranged for the proposal to take place in front of close friends, presenting her with a ring and roses.

The upcoming wedding is set to take place on the anniversary of their first date, which was two years ago. Lai said the couple had known each other for over 20 years through their church community but only grew closer after she sought his support during a difficult period in her life.

Lai first rose to prominence after winning the inaugural Miss Asia Pageant in 1985. She later gained recognition for acting roles in television series such as "Xi Shih" (1986) and "Genghis Khan" (1987-1988). The actress, previously married to actor Lau Wing from 1992 to 2004, has spoken openly about her experience raising two children as a single mother and managing the associated responsibilities.

Now engaged, Lai expressed relief and gratitude for finding a supportive partner. She described her fiancé as thoughtful and attentive, saying that she feels able to rely on him after years of being independent. The couple intends to keep their wedding celebration simple, inviting only close family and friends for a modest meal, as they do not see the need for an elaborate event.

Reflecting on her past, Lai acknowledged that she once doubted she would find love again after her divorce but said her experience has changed her outlook. She emphasized that love is not limited by age, stating, "You can fall in love even at 80."
