More than 100 players gathered in Doha on June 23 for Hoop4Hope 2.0, a youth-driven 3x3 basketball tournament aimed at raising funds and awareness for humanitarian relief efforts in Sudan. The event was hosted by Fame Sports Academy and initiated by the Doha Youth Network, highlighting how sports can mobilize communities and support urgent causes.

The tournament featured both male and female participants competing in a series of fast-paced matches over four hours, blending athletic competition with a message of solidarity. Hoop4Hope 2.0 builds on the success of the inaugural event, which focused on humanitarian aid for Gaza. This edition shifted the spotlight to Sudan, reflecting organizers’ efforts to engage young people in addressing critical challenges beyond their immediate environment.

Sarah Faris Tarlochan, co-founder of the Doha Youth Network, explained that the initiative sought to unite youth across Doha in a lively, inclusive setting while channeling their energy towards humanitarian support. “This time, it’s all about supporting Sudan,” she said, emphasizing the event’s dual role in both fundraising and education. Participants and spectators were offered opportunities to learn more about Sudan’s current crisis, fostering a sense of empathy and global awareness alongside the sporting action.

The event received strong backing from local brands, including Alkalive Water, as well as the broader community. Tarlochan expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the amount of donations collected, thanking the sponsors, organizers, and attendees for their contributions. “We are truly happy for the success of the event,” she said, “and managed to collect a good amount of donations to support Sudan.”

Representatives from Fame Sports Academy highlighted the social impact dimension of the tournament. Academy general manager Eng. Ahmed Hamouda described the event as a demonstration of sport’s power to extend beyond competition, serving as a platform for social responsibility and community engagement. “Fame Academy is more than just basketball,” he said. “We are happy and proud to support Doha Youth Network and any other youth doing things for a good cause for our brothers and sisters all over the world.”

Hoop4Hope 2.0 also aligns with Qatar’s broader culture of community involvement, where youth organizations, sporting institutions, and corporate partners collaborate on initiatives that link recreation with humanitarian efforts. Organizers hope the tournament will inspire more young people to view sport not only as a form of entertainment or fitness but as a meaningful avenue to contribute, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with vulnerable populations globally.
