A 26-year-old man was fined for causing a public nuisance after dressing as the Grim Reaper and appearing on the roof of a hospital in North Wales. Leon Gillespie of Deganwy, Conwy, spent nearly an hour on the rooftop of Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, before police and firefighters intervened.
Witnesses described Gillespie as wearing a long black hooded costume, sometimes likened to a crow, and carrying what appeared to be a long blade. The purpose behind his behavior was not explained during proceedings at Llandudno magistrates’ court, where he admitted to causing a nuisance.
In addition to the fine related to the hospital incident, Gillespie also pleaded guilty to theft charges involving small-scale shoplifting. He admitted stealing approximately £30 worth of cat food and litter from a Pets at Home store in March, as well as food and beverages from a Sainsbury’s in May.
The court ordered Gillespie to pay £50 in compensation, along with £100 in fines and £100 in costs, connected to the theft offenses. Combined with the £200 fine for the nuisance at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Gillespie is subject to financial penalties totaling £450.
