An Irish couple was found dead at a rented holiday home on the Valencian coast of Spain, with investigators currently considering a hot tub accident as the likely cause. The man, 50, and his wife, 45, were discovered on Tuesday afternoon by their children, aged 14 and 16, at a property in the upscale Cap Blanc residential development in Cullera, located south of Valencia. The children raised the alarm after finding their parents naked near the hot tub.

The Civil Guard launched a homicide investigation after small cuts were found on the couple’s bodies. However, authorities reported no obvious signs of violence or robbery at the scene. Investigators are now focusing on the possibility of a mechanical failure in the hot tub as a primary explanation. It is suggested that the injuries might have occurred when one parent attempted to pull the other from the water.

One scenario under consideration is that the woman, originally from Castlebayney, County Monaghan, may have experienced a medical emergency or accident upon leaving the hot tub, leading to a situation in which her husband died while trying to rescue her. Authorities are also exploring whether electrocution or toxic fumes could have contributed to the deaths.

Officials are reviewing security camera footage at the property, with Spanish television reports indicating that the footage does not show any evidence of a third person entering the villa. The family had been staying at the residence during their holiday.
