A woman and her young son experienced a distressing incident at a Premier Inn hotel in Wales when a man, believed to be a staff member, entered their locked room late at night. The guest, identified as Emma Howard, recounted that she was in bed with her nine-year-old son when she heard a light tapping at the door. Upon standing and calling out, she discovered the door had been opened by a stranger who quickly apologized and left. When she looked through the peephole, the man was still outside the room, prompting her to block the door with furniture out of concern he might attempt to enter again.

The incident was reported to the hotel management the following morning. Emma said she believed the man had a key card allowing him to override the lock and that his clothing suggested he was a member of the hotel staff. Initially, she requested a refund for her stay but was instead offered a free breakfast, which she declined. Emma emphasized that her primary concern was to ensure the safety of other guests, particularly women, rather than seeking financial compensation.

Premier Inn, the United Kingdom’s largest hotel brand, responded to the complaint by conducting an investigation at the hotel. The company confirmed that a member of the night reception team entered the room because they had a legitimate reason to do so but acknowledged that the staff member did not wait long enough after knocking to receive a response before entering. Premier Inn described the incident as an isolated error by the individual staff member, which has since been addressed with the hotel team. The company added that measures have been taken to prevent a recurrence.

Following the inquiry, Premier Inn refunded Emma the £62 cost of her stay and offered an apology for the distress caused. The company stated it had been in direct contact with Emma to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, Emma expressed frustration over the lack of follow-up communication and reiterated her hope that management would take the matter seriously to avoid similar situations in the future.
