The Houston Astros rallied to secure an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, overcoming a late deficit at Comerica Park. The comeback was highlighted by Isaac Paredes’ go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning, which broke a 6-6 tie and propelled the visiting Astros to the win.

Detroit entered the eighth inning holding a 6-5 lead, but Houston responded quickly against Tigers reliever Will Vest. Yainer Diaz opened the frame with a leadoff single, followed by a single from Christian Vasquez. Jeremy Pena then drove in Diaz with another base hit, tying the game 6-6. A misplay by Tigers center fielder James Outman allowed runners to advance, setting the stage for Paredes’ clutch double down the right-field line.

Pena was a standout performer for the Astros, finishing the game with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Diaz contributed significantly as well, recording two hits. For Detroit, Christian Walker led the offense with four hits, adding a run scored and one RBI. Cam Smith also made an impact, connecting for a two-run homer during the game.

Houston pitcher Kai-Wei Teng started for the Astros but struggled early, giving up five runs—four earned—in 3⅔ innings of work. Despite the rocky start, the bullpen and offense combined to overcome the deficit.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, formerly the Astros skipper, remained one victory short of reaching 1,000 career managerial wins, a milestone that would make him the 68th manager in Major League Baseball history to achieve that mark.

The Astros’ late-inning resilience and timely hitting allowed them to capture the win on the road, improving their record and maintaining momentum as the regular season progresses. The Tigers, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in upcoming games while Hinch aims to notch that milestone victory.
