Industries in the United Arab Emirates are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous systems to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs, according to a report released on Thursday by the UAE Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which operates under the Dubai Future Foundation.
Since 2021, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has implemented more than 100 AI and data-driven applications, yielding a reported financial impact of $123 million. EGA’s Al Taweelah smelter gained international recognition in January 2025 when it was designated a Global Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum, marking the first industrial facility in the UAE to receive this status for adopting advanced manufacturing technologies.
Robotic technology is also being deployed within other industrial sectors and public services. At Adnoc Gas, Gecko Robotics has introduced wall-climbing robots for the inspection of pressure equipment, such as pipelines and tanks. These robots are able to inspect nearly twice the surface area compared to manual methods. Inspection data is processed through an AI platform that predicts maintenance needs and potential repair timelines, improving asset management and safety.
Public safety services are leveraging autonomous vehicles; Dubai Police has put into operation a driverless patrol vehicle developed by UAE-based Micropolis Robotics. This autonomous unit has been deployed at Global Village, a popular multi-cultural event space, to assist in routine monitoring and security tasks.
Healthcare facilities across the UAE, including institutions in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, are also adopting robotic surgical platforms. American Hospital Dubai and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City alone have conducted upwards of 4,000 procedures using such technology. The report highlights the expanding role of biotechnology, genomics, and other emerging fields within healthcare and research, demonstrating a broader trend of technological integration.
More than 60 of the documented applications in the report have been developed through collaborations between public and private sector entities, including government agencies, corporate partners, universities, and research institutions. This indicates a growing ecosystem that supports innovation and the use of advanced technology across various domains in the UAE.
