HSBC is expanding its wealth management presence in the United Arab Emirates, positioning Dubai as a key global financial hub rather than merely a regional center. Speaking at the bank’s UAE Wealth Investment Summit on Wednesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dubai, Co-Chief Executive Surendra Rosha emphasized Dubai’s evolution into a major platform for capital, talent, and business enterprise.
Rosha, who oversees HSBC’s operations in Asia and the Middle East, described the UAE as a vital link connecting markets in Asia, the Middle East, and the West. He highlighted that the country’s role extends beyond its surrounding region, making it a strategic location for clients considering wealth management, corporate development, or career opportunities. “Dubai becomes a venue for conversation about globality and being able to execute globally from there,” he noted.
The bank’s UAE operation contributed approximately $1 billion in additional deposits to the global group over the past year, reflecting strong growth in the market. HSBC established its first wealth center in Dubai’s Jumeirah district last year and plans to open a second facility in Abu Dhabi by December, signaling continued investment in the country’s expanding client base.
This summit marks the beginning of what HSBC anticipates will be many more events in the UAE, coinciding with the bank’s 80th anniversary in the country. Rosha pointed to the UAE’s central role in the ongoing technological shifts affecting global capital flows. Referring to research by McKinsey, he noted that artificial intelligence is expected to drive a $13 trillion value transfer by 2030, underscoring the need for adaptability in investment strategies.
Client discussions at the summit focused on building “resilience architecture” to navigate market volatility with a long-term perspective. Rosha stressed that volatility is not necessarily detrimental but requires consistent and committed investment approaches spanning generations. HSBC’s global operation dates back 160 years, with its UAE presence established eight decades ago, and Rosha credited the bank’s sustained success to the ongoing trust of its customers.
As HSBC intensifies its focus on the UAE, its actions reflect broader trends of wealth shifting toward new financial centers amid technological and economic transformation.
