A Pennsylvania woman allegedly fatally stabbed her husband and their 3-year-old son before attempting to take her own life during a family trip to a resort in the Poconos, authorities reported Monday.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, from Towanda, Pennsylvania, is accused of stabbing her husband, Charles Harrison, and their young son identified by initials T.H., at the Great Wolf Lodge, a hotel and indoor water park. Following the attack, Harrison reportedly slashed her wrists and neck inside the hotel room.
According to a police affidavit, Harrison placed a 911 call to seek advice on how to locate a vein for self-harm, telling emergency dispatchers, “My husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room... I’m sorry.” Both victims were stabbed in the chest, and Harrison attempted to puncture her own neck.
Monroe County District Attorney’s Office characterized the incident as a “violent domestic tragedy” that resulted in the deaths of a father and son. Authorities indicated there was no ongoing threat to the public following the incident.
Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel were met with a distressed Harrison, who refused to speak with police during her subsequent arrest, saying she was “suicidal, not stupid,” according to the affidavit. During transport, she reportedly expressed frustration and despair to EMS workers, stating, “Every day, I work so hard to be the best person, the best mother, the best wife. It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child.” She also asked medics about the depth of her veins, suggesting a continued intent to harm herself.
Harrison was charged with two counts of criminal homicide. She was hospitalized following the incident and had not appeared in court as of Tuesday evening. The investigation remains ongoing.
