Huddersfield Giants have confirmed they will move to Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium as their new home ground starting in the 2027 season. The rugby league club has been seeking a replacement for their current 24,500-capacity venue, the Accu Stadium, which has been widely regarded as unsuitable for their needs.

Initially, the Giants had considered using The Shay in Halifax as a temporary base while planning for a new, purpose-built stadium in Huddersfield progressed. However, the club has now reached an agreement to share Dewsbury Rams’ Flair Stadium, located approximately 10 miles away, for the foreseeable future as they continue their search for a permanent home.

Giants owner Ken Davy emphasized the challenges the club has faced in securing an appropriate venue within Huddersfield. He described the Flair Stadium as an ideal location with the right capacity and facilities to support the team and its supporters. Davy also outlined plans to invest more than £10 million in upgrading the ground, including the construction of a new stand to raise the capacity from 5,000 to 8,000, and to enhance overall facilities to meet Super League standards.

Despite relocating, Davy reiterated his commitment to establishing a dedicated stadium in Huddersfield eventually, stating that the pursuit of this goal remains a priority.

The announcement coincided with a strong on-field performance, as Huddersfield secured a 42-20 victory over Catalans Dragons at the Accu Stadium. The Giants surged to a 36-0 lead by halftime. Sam Halsall and Connor Wrench each scored two tries, while Fenton Rogers, Sam Hewitt, and Zane Dunford also crossed the try line. Catalans, who played much of the game with 12 players following Franck Maria’s dismissal, responded with tries from Ben Condon, who scored twice, Leo Darrelatour, and Charlie Staines.

Huddersfield’s coach Jim Lenihan described the day as positive for the club, expressing satisfaction with both the announcement and the team’s third consecutive win.

The move to Dewsbury marks a significant transition for the Giants as they aim to stabilize their home ground situation while maintaining competitive performance on the field.
