Human remains discovered last month in Sherwood Forest have been identified as those of Michael Dennington, a hospital patient who went missing in 2020. Dennington, who was 58 years old at the time, had been discharged from King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, in May 2020. Following his disappearance, police conducted a search but were unable to locate him.

The remains were found by walkers near the A617 road close to Mansfield, prompting an investigation. DNA testing confirmed the identity of the skeleton as Dennington’s. Detective Inspector Stuart Barson, overseeing the case, stated that inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the death, with authorities awaiting the final results of the post-mortem examination.

No further details have been released regarding the cause of death or any potential foul play as the investigation remains active. Authorities have indicated they will provide updates once additional information becomes available.
