A Long Island fisherman experienced a dramatic encounter with a humpback whale that collided with his boat earlier this week. Steven Heid was aboard the vessel when the large marine mammal suddenly breached the water and struck the boat, causing significant impact.

The incident was captured on video, showing the humpback whale, which typically weighs between 50,000 and 80,000 pounds, forcefully smashing the boat’s hatch open upon impact. Despite the force of the collision, neither the boat nor the whale sustained serious damage.
