Hurricane Vance rapidly intensified on Friday, reaching Category 2 strength as it advanced toward Mexico’s Pacific Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). At the time of the latest advisory, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour and was located approximately 425 miles south-southwest of Acapulco.
The NHC indicated that Vance could strengthen further to become a major Category 3 hurricane before the end of the day. The storm was moving northwest at a speed of about 5 miles per hour, a trajectory expected to continue throughout the weekend. Forecasts project that Vance will approach the Puerto Vallarta region by Monday.
The outer bands of the hurricane were already producing gale-force winds and turbulent sea conditions along Mexico’s Gulf of Tehuantepec, posing potential hazards to coastal areas. Residents and authorities in the storm’s projected path are being monitored as preparations for possible impacts progress.
