The husband of a general practitioner found dead at their home near the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk has been charged with her murder. Mark Cain, 45, was arrested shortly after police responded to a call from the ambulance service at 2:20 a.m. on Sunday. His wife, Dr. Hannah Terry, also 45, was pronounced dead at their family residence in Dersingham, where she had been hosting a sleepover for their children’s friends.
Dr. Terry, who was widely recognized as a GP for the Royal Family, had worked at the Grimston Medical Centre since June 2026, having left a previous practice in Heacham to devote more time to her family. She was also involved in private practice through Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a cosmetic treatment business she co-owned. The couple lived in a detached house on Fern Hill, near the King’s estate in Sandringham, which they purchased in 2021.
Cain, a director of an energy consultancy company called Mammoth Energy Solutions Ltd, was held in custody and appeared at Norwich magistrates’ court on Monday. Police confirmed they remain in the early stages of the investigation and have appealed for anyone with relevant information to come forward. A post-mortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist was inconclusive, and further inquiries are ongoing.
Neighbors and friends described Dr. Terry as a warm, caring individual and a devoted mother to their three sons, born in 2013, 2015, and 2018. Several locals expressed shock at the incident, highlighting the village’s close-knit nature and the rarity of such events there. Friends noted Dr. Terry had appeared “stressed” and “distracted” in recent days, a demeanor they said was uncharacteristic.
Colleagues and patients paid tribute to Dr. Terry’s dedication and kindness. The Grimston Medical Centre closed temporarily following the incident, citing “extremely difficult circumstances” for its staff. Representatives from the Norfolk and Waveney Local Medical Committee praised her professionalism and commitment to patient care. Online tributes reflected a deep sense of loss within the medical community and among patients.
The King and Queen were reported to have been informed of Dr. Terry’s death. Police have maintained a cordon around the property as forensic teams continue to gather evidence. Specialist officers have been offering support to the family throughout the investigation.
