The husband of a Norfolk general practitioner has appeared in court charged with her murder following her death last weekend. Dr. Hannah Cain, 45, was found dead at their home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, near the Sandringham estate, on Sunday, October 4.
Mark Cain, also 45 and residing at the same address, was arrested and formally charged on Tuesday afternoon, Norfolk police confirmed. He appeared before Norwich magistrates court on Wednesday. During the hearing, he was not required to enter a plea and was remanded in custody. The case has been committed to King’s Lynn crown court, where Mark Cain is scheduled to appear on Thursday morning.
According to prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon, emergency services were called to the residence in the early hours of Sunday after Dr. Cain was discovered unconscious and not breathing in an upstairs bedroom. The ambulance service contacted police at 2:25 a.m. It was noted that children were present at the property during the incident.
Dr. Cain was a member of the medical team at Grimston Medical Centre, where she practiced under the name Dr. Hannah Terry. The medical centre announced its temporary closure on Monday, citing “extremely difficult circumstances” affecting staff. A statement posted on the centre’s official Facebook page apologized for the disruption and asked for patience and understanding during this difficult period.
Norfolk police have indicated that specialist officers continue to provide support to Dr. Cain’s family, who have requested privacy as investigations proceed. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under active police investigation.
