The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) held its fifth consecutive blood platelet donation camp in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) at the Qatar National Blood Donation Centre. The event attracted over 50 volunteers from various Indian states, reinforcing the community's ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare efforts in Qatar.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the critical need for platelet donations, which are vital for patients undergoing cancer treatments, organ transplants, major surgeries, or suffering from blood-related disorders and traumatic injuries. Due to the short shelf life of platelets, maintaining a steady supply requires sustained contributions from voluntary donors.
During the official proceedings, ICBF general secretary Deepak Shetty outlined the organisation’s ongoing efforts and emphasised the significance of platelet donations within the broader scope of ICBF’s humanitarian outreach. He highlighted how the campaign contributes to both patient care and the robustness of Qatar’s healthcare system.
ICBF vice-president Rasheed Ahmed explained the motivation behind launching the platelet donation campaign and stressed the importance of ensuring its continuity. Expressing gratitude towards the volunteers, he underlined that sustained community involvement is crucial for the success of such life-saving initiatives.
The event was coordinated by Secretary Jafer Thayyil, with dedicated support from managing committee members including Irfan Ansari, Mani Bharathi, Neelambari S, Amar Veer Singh, Khaja Nizamuddin, and Shankar Goud. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mini Siby, head of the ICBF Medical Wing.
Through these regular donation drives, the ICBF continues to play an active role in fostering voluntary blood platelet donation among Qatar’s Indian expatriate community, contributing to the ongoing support of critical medical services in the country.
