The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) organized its second consecutive blood platelet donation camp in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) at the Qatar National Blood Donation Center. The event aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for blood platelet donations and to boost community involvement in this critical healthcare initiative.
Platelet donations play a vital role in treating patients undergoing cancer therapies, organ transplants, major surgeries, and those with blood disorders or traumatic injuries. Because platelets have a short shelf life, a steady supply relies heavily on voluntary donors. The camp underscored the importance of such contributions in supporting Qatar’s healthcare system and saving lives.
Over 60 volunteers from various Indian states participated, reflecting the expatriate Indian community’s dedication to humanitarian causes. During the official proceedings, ICBF President Shanavas Bava emphasized the significance of hosting regular platelet donation drives and acknowledged the strong turnout of donors. He stressed that ongoing community engagement is essential for sustaining these life-saving efforts.
General Secretary Deepak Shetty welcomed attendees, and Health Wing In-Charge Mini Siby delivered the vote of thanks. ICBF Advisory Council Chairman KS Prasad also attended and commended the volunteers’ commitment to the initiative.
The camp was coordinated by ICBF Secretary Jafer Thayyil, supported by managing committee members Mani Bharathi, Neelambari Sushant, Amar Veer Singh, Khaja Nizamudeen, Shankar Goud, and Irfan Ansari. Their combined efforts were instrumental in the successful execution of the donation drive, reinforcing the ICBF’s ongoing commitment to community welfare in Qatar.
