Preston North End manager Graham Alexander acknowledged the challenges facing his team following a 3-1 defeat to Wrexham, which extended the club’s winless streak since his appointment during the international break. The Lilywhites remain bottom of the league and have yet to earn a point under Alexander’s leadership, with defensive struggles persisting after conceding four goals in consecutive matches, including a 4-0 loss to Birmingham earlier in the week.
Alexander suggested that the three-goal margin against Wrexham may have been excessive given the opportunities his side created, particularly early in the second half when the score was 2-1. However, he admitted that the team continues to suffer from defensive vulnerabilities that are being exploited at this level, contributing to a club record run of 26 league games without a clean sheet.
In reflecting on the ongoing difficulties, Alexander emphasized the lack of simple solutions and the necessity of hard work to reverse the team’s fortunes. He noted the demands of a congested fixture schedule have limited the time available to address specific issues in training. While he expressed belief in the potential for improvement, Alexander also questioned whether he might be expecting too much from his players under the current circumstances.
“I haven’t got magic dust,” the manager said. “We have to work. But I still think there’s improvements and I have to look at whether I’m asking too much of the players at this moment considering where we are.”
Preston’s struggles continue to compound pressure on Alexander as the club seeks to arrest a troubling run and climb out of the relegation zone.
