Idris Elba is set to produce a documentary focusing on his involvement with his Formula E racing team, Cupra Kiro. The actor, known for his roles in "Luther" and Marvel films, joined the team in early 2025 and aims to highlight the growing popularity of electric motor racing.

The project will be developed through Elba’s production company, 22Summers, which he founded in 2024. The company boasts a team of experienced filmmakers, including Diene Petterle and Gina Carter. Petterle has significant experience in the genre, having executive produced the 2023 racing documentary "Max Verstappen: Anatomy Of A Champion" as well as Elba’s BBC special "Idris Elba: Our Knife Crime Crisis."

While distribution details remain unclear, insiders suggest the documentary will likely premiere on a major streaming platform such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Disney+, given the strong market demand for sports-related content. The project has drawn comparisons to the popular Netflix series "Drive to Survive," which chronicles Formula One racing.

Elba’s connection to motorsport extends beyond ownership. In 2022, he launched the Idris Elba Speed Academy, a programme designed to develop racing talent from communities that have been traditionally underrepresented in the sport. The following year, he supported former Formula One engineer Rob Smedley’s initiative to launch the Global Karting League, which seeks to promote the future of motor racing on a grassroots level.

Elba is frequently present at Formula E events and was recently seen trackside congratulating Cupra Kiro’s Spanish driver, Pepe Martí, at the Monaco ePrix in May. The documentary is expected to draw on his personal experience and passion for the sport, providing an inside look at the fast-evolving world of electric car racing.
