The International Financial Centre of Oman (IFC Oman) is preparing to begin company registrations later this year as it advances toward a full operational launch in 2027. The centre is finalizing its legal framework, regulatory guidelines, and digital application system, aiming to provide a streamlined environment for business registration and licensing.
A comprehensive package of legislation covering business registration and licensing, financial services regulation, and independent dispute resolution is expected to be issued shortly. This legal groundwork will enable IFC Oman’s authorities to implement regulations governing activities conducted within the centre. Officials also anticipate launching a digital registry soon, which will allow companies to submit their registration applications online.
Mahmood al Aweini, Chairman of the IFC Oman Authority Board, emphasized the centre’s progress, noting that its legal, regulatory, and technological infrastructure is nearing completion. He highlighted IFC Oman’s goal to offer global businesses and investors a stable and competitive platform by leveraging Oman’s strategic geographic location and long-standing international ties. The centre intends to unlock new growth opportunities while supporting economic diversification and employment goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
IFC Oman is designing its framework around a common-law system to provide financial institutions, investors, and professional service firms with a dedicated business environment. This environment will include tailored provisions for registration, licensing, and dispute resolution. The centre aims to connect international capital and expertise with opportunities within Oman and the broader region.
In addition to legal and operational preparations, IFC Oman has intensified its international outreach to attract prospective stakeholders. It recently gained membership in the World Alliance of International Financial Centres during the alliance’s annual meeting in Busan, South Korea. Representatives have also participated in the Hong Kong Belt and Road Summit and Astana Finance Days to build connections with potential business participants.
Looking ahead, a delegation from IFC Oman will visit Bangkok to engage with international financial services firms on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings as well as the Institute of International Finance’s annual membership meeting. Additional outreach events are planned in London later this month.
IFC Oman indicated that completing its legal framework will provide the clarity and certainty needed for businesses to establish operations in the country. Company registration will commence prior to the centre’s full launch of licensing services in 2027, marking a key milestone in its phased rollout.
