An Illinois State Police trooper faces criminal charges after being accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a bartender in Tinley Park last year. Douglas Lee, 54, was stripped of his police authority and is being held in Cook County jail following the charges announced Friday.

According to Cook County prosecutors, Lee and the woman, who worked as a bartender at a south suburban bar, had known each other since 2024, with Lee frequenting the establishment. On August 2, 2025, after finishing her shift, the woman stayed at the bar with friends before the group decided to move to a nearby bar. Lee asked to join them.

At the second bar, prosecutors said, Lee bought the woman a seltzer and a shot. She told investigators the last thing she recalled was dancing with a friend after consuming the drinks. The following morning, around 10:45 a.m., the woman regained consciousness in her car, which was parked where she had left it the previous evening. She noticed her pants were inside out, her bra was on the passenger seat, and her shirt was tucked into her jacket pocket.

Upon entering the bar to use the restroom, the woman observed signs indicating she had been involved in sexual intercourse but had no memory of the event. She contacted two friends who had been with her the night before; one friend confirmed seeing her and Lee dancing. The woman then called Lee seeking an explanation. Prosecutors said Lee met her in the bar’s parking lot, admitted to having sex, but asserted the encounter was consensual.

Surveillance footage from the second bar reportedly shows Lee and the woman leaving around 1:30 a.m., with additional videos depicting the woman entering Lee’s car before they departed. Prosecutors stated that Lee drove to a hotel in Midlothian, where he used his credit card to pay for a room and allegedly assaulted the woman.

The woman later sought an order of protection against Lee. A court order currently prohibits him from contacting her during the legal proceedings. Lee was arrested on Thursday and appeared before Cook County Judge Shauna Boliker on Saturday, who ordered him to remain in custody.

Court documents also reveal that Lee faced an assault accusation in 2005 related to threatening phone calls, but that case was ultimately dismissed. The investigation into the recent allegations remains ongoing.
