Authorities in Manchester, New Hampshire, are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found at their home Tuesday morning as a potential murder-suicide. An 8-year-old boy, believed to be related to the couple, was also discovered with a gunshot wound to the torso and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
Manchester police responded shortly after 9:30 a.m. to a welfare check at a residence on 59 Wheelock Street following a call from a family member reporting a possible domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers entered the home and located the man and woman deceased in a bedroom. The man appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head, while the woman had multiple apparent gunshot wounds.
The boy was found alert and conscious despite his injury and was immediately transported to a regional trauma center for treatment. Senior Assistant Attorney General Alex Kellermann emphasized the importance of the timely welfare check, stating it was crucial in ensuring the child received lifesaving medical care.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims or clarify the familial relationships involved, though the eight-year-old is understood to be their son. The incident remains under active investigation, with police and detectives working to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the deaths.
No ongoing danger to the public has been identified, according to officials. Autopsies on the man and woman are scheduled for Wednesday morning, after which further details regarding the cause and manner of death are expected to be released following notification of next of kin.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Manchester Police Chief Peter A. Marr have both expressed concern for the child’s wellbeing and urged patience as investigators continue their work. The community is left grappling with the unsettling incident, which remains under close examination.
