This summer’s television lineup features a diverse array of new and returning series across multiple genres, from superhero noir and dystopian sci-fi to fantasy epics and crime thrillers.
On May 27, Amazon Prime will debut "Spider-Noir," marking Nicolas Cage’s first lead role in a television series. Cage portrays Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider, a version of Spider-Man set in a 1930s alternate New York inspired by the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir. The storyline follows Reilly, a once-retired private investigator and former superhero, who returns to his alter-ego after a long hiatus prompted by a personal tragedy. Co-showrunner Oren Uziel describes Cage’s portrayal as blending the styles of Humphrey Bogart and Bugs Bunny, promising a unique take on the superhero genre.
Apple TV+ continues to expand its dystopian sci-fi world with the third season of "Silo," available July 3. Starring Rebecca Ferguson, Common, and Harriet Walter, the series delves deeper into the origins of Juliette Nichols and her community living in a vast underground silo. The new season will also explore revelations about the existence of at least 50 other silos and the community’s response to a shifting power structure following the rebellion that concluded the previous season.
Fans of fantasy drama will see the return of "House of the Dragon" on OSN+ beginning June 22. As a prequel to the widely popular "Game of Thrones," this series chronicles the conflict within House Targaryen, set centuries before the events of the original show. Despite lukewarm reviews of its initial seasons, the third installment is expected to increase the action with heightened political intrigue and, notably, more dragon sequences. The narrative centers on the escalating succession war between King Viserys I’s daughter and heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen, and the sons he had with Queen Alicent Hightower, who was also Rhaenyra’s childhood companion.
Also coming to Apple TV+ on July 15 is "Lucky," a limited series adaptation of Melissa Stapley’s novel. Featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, Annette Bening, and Timothy Olyphant, the show follows Lucky, a criminal attempting to leave her life of crime behind after one final high-stakes heist goes awry. With both federal agents and a merciless crime boss pursuing her, the series explores the tension and dangers of trying to escape a violent past.
Together, these offerings highlight a season rich with varied storytelling, aiming to captivate viewers across multiple platforms as the summer unfolds.
