India and Kuwait are advancing discussions to expand investment cooperation across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, logistics, and food processing, Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Paramita Tripathi announced during a press conference on October 31. The event marked the inaugural briefing under the newly launched India–Kuwait Media Connect (IKMC) initiative, aimed at enhancing information sharing between the two countries’ media.

Ambassador Tripathi described recent talks, particularly a meeting with Kuwait’s Finance Minister Yaqoub Al-Sayed Yousef Al-Rifai, as productive. The discussions, which also involved India–Kuwait Joint Working Group on Investment Cooperation held in New Delhi earlier this month, highlighted growing mutual interest in exploring joint ventures. While acknowledgement was made that investment talks are complex and ongoing, the ambassador expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. Both private sector engagement and Kuwait’s sovereign wealth fund are already contributing to investments in India, with infrastructure and logistics cited as promising areas, alongside a notably strong interest in food processing.

The ambassador also touched upon the challenges faced globally and regionally, noting that Kuwait’s Finance Minister showed keen interest in India’s approach to these economic conditions. An extensive exchange of viewpoints took place with the involvement of the Kuwaiti finance team, reflecting a shared focus on resilient economic strategies.

In line with marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait, the embassy is organizing several cultural and community activities. These include a tree-plantation initiative, the upcoming Diwali Diwaniya festival on November 2 and 3, and the IIT-IIM Alumni Inter-School Quiz. Additional events, such as India’s Bharat Mela showcasing traditional arts and cuisine, are planned for early 2027. Kuwait’s embassy in New Delhi will also host a reception and textile exhibition celebrating Kuwait’s heritage later this month.

While no formal high-level visits have been scheduled specifically for the anniversary, the ambassador confirmed that invitations are under consideration, with dates yet to be finalized. She expressed optimism that such exchanges could take place soon.

Ambassador Tripathi highlighted India’s recent economic and technological progress, reporting a gross domestic product growth of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year. She pointed to advancements in quantum communication, indigenous artificial intelligence chip development, and space exploration programs, including Gaganyaan and next-generation launch vehicles. India’s achievements in the Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and WorldSkills Shanghai were noted as signals of growing talent and innovation capacity.

Upcoming international events in India relevant to business and cultural collaboration include the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo in early November, the 31st CII Partnership Summit, and the 57th International Film Festival of India, with the embassy encouraging Kuwaiti media participation. In 2027, events such as Aero India, Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, and World Food India are set to provide further opportunities for engagement.

The ambassador also addressed the Indian expatriate community in Kuwait, noting its growth from approximately 1.06 million in 2025 to about 1.07 million in 2026. While recruitment in sectors such as nursing and technical services continues, she emphasized that the embassy prioritizes community safety and welfare over population increase.

The India–Kuwait Media Connect initiative aims to foster ongoing dialogue and cooperation through regular media engagement, with a second press conference planned for November. Ambassador Tripathi underscored the important role of media in strengthening bilateral ties and sharing reliable information.
