India secured a comprehensive 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second Twenty20 International at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, clinching the two-match series 2-0. The win marked Shreyas Iyer’s first series triumph as India’s captain and provided a strong response following their recent defeats to Ireland and England in the United Kingdom.

Batting first, India posted a commanding total of 219 for five, propelled by a dominant 81 from Ishan Kishan and an aggressive unbeaten 60 from Tilak Varma. After an early loss of wickets, Iyer and Kishan steadied the innings before Kishan accelerated the scoring with solid strokeplay. Varma’s rapid half-century off 23 balls helped India finish strongly, particularly with 21 runs coming off Sikandar Raza’s 15th over, exerting significant pressure on the hosts.

Zimbabwe’s chase began positively as opener Brian Bennett attacked India’s bowling, striking 32 runs from 19 deliveries with three fours and as many sixes. However, Bennett’s dismissal by Yash Thakur in the fourth over, who claimed his maiden international wicket, curtailed the momentum. Subsequently, Zimbabwe’s innings faltered as wickets fell regularly.

Prince Yadav was effective with the ball early on, claiming two quick wickets including that of captain Sikandar Raza for a duck, but he left the field due to a hamstring injury, requiring Shivam Dube to finish his over. Ravi Bishnoi and Dube also contributed with key wickets, restricting Zimbabwe's batsmen.

At the halfway point, Zimbabwe stood at 69 for five, with Ryan Burl and Tadiwanashe Marumani attempting to rebuild the innings. Burl scored 20 before falling to Varma, who took advantage of a diving catch by Rinku Singh. Despite a brief partnership between Marumani and Brad Evans that pushed Zimbabwe beyond 100, the visitors struggled to sustain their chase.

Abhishek Sharma played a crucial role with the ball, finishing with three wickets for 17 runs, while Thakur and Prince also recorded two wickets each. Zimbabwe was eventually dismissed for 129 in 17.5 overs.

India had earlier lost Abhishek Sharma early but were boosted by a lively 20 runs from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who displayed an aggressive approach before his dismissal. The innings was then anchored effectively by Iyer and Kishan, setting the platform for the later flourish.

India’s all-round performance, combining strong batting and disciplined bowling, ultimately dominated the contest and secured a convincing series victory in Harare.
