India’s Trade Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to travel to the United States from September 29 to October 5 for discussions aimed at advancing a bilateral trade agreement between the two countries. During his visit, Goyal will also participate in a G20 trade ministers’ meeting in Wisconsin, invited by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

The Indian government stated that Goyal’s meetings with his American counterparts will focus on progressing a balanced and mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and working to finalize an interim deal consistent with the joint statement issued on February 7, 2026.

Negotiations between India and the United States have been ongoing for several months, but the two sides have yet to reach a final consensus. India has emphasized the need for better terms in the agreement. Earlier in September, New Delhi communicated concerns to Washington regarding proposed U.S. tariffs linked to India’s purchase of Russian oil, warning that such measures could strain bilateral relations.

The upcoming visit marks a critical phase in trade talks, reflecting both countries’ interest in strengthening economic ties while addressing outstanding issues related to tariffs and market access.
