The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) in Qatar held its fifth consecutive monthly blood platelet donation camp in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) at the Qatar National Blood Donation Center. The event drew over 50 volunteers from various Indian states, reflecting strong community engagement in this life-saving initiative.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the critical need for platelet donations, which play an essential role in the treatment of patients undergoing cancer therapies, organ transplants, major surgeries, and those affected by blood disorders or traumatic injuries. Given the short shelf life of platelets, the initiative emphasized the importance of a steady supply dependent on voluntary donors.
During the event, ICBF General Secretary Deepak Shetty highlighted the organization’s ongoing community service efforts and detailed the significance of platelet donation within their broader humanitarian outreach. In his address, ICBF Vice President Rasheed Ahmed discussed the motivations behind launching the platelet donation campaign and underscored the necessity of sustained community participation to maintain the program’s success.
The event was coordinated by secretary Jafer Thayyil, supported by several managing committee members, including Irfan Ansari, Mani Bharathi, Neelambari S, Amar Veer Singh, Khaja Nizamuddin, and Shankar Goud. ICBF Head of Medical Wing Mini Siby delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the volunteers’ vital contributions to Qatar’s healthcare system through this ongoing effort.
