Daniel Lazar, an Indian expatriate and founder of a prominent education group in the Northern Emirates, died on Wednesday at the age of 84 in his native Kerala, according to a statement from his office. Lazar, a Dubai resident, was recognized for establishing the Lazar Group and the North Point Education Group of Schools.
Before relocating to the United Arab Emirates in 1968, Lazar worked as an electrical engineer with the Tata Group in Pune, India. His move to the UAE involved a challenging journey by boat, reflecting his determination to pursue new opportunities in the region. Over the following decades, he built a reputation as an entrepreneur and educator, contributing significantly to the growth of private education in the Northern Emirates.
Lazar is survived by his son, Lanson Lazar, the late chairman of the group, and his daughter, Lincy D’Souza, who serves as director of operations. The education group described Lazar as an engineer, entrepreneur, educator, and visionary who laid the foundation for the organization’s expansion and success.
The Lazar Group and its education arm, North Point Education Group of Schools, continue to operate across the Northern Emirates, offering schooling and educational services in line with the founder’s vision. Lazar’s passing marks the end of an era for the group, which has played a significant role in shaping access to education in the UAE.
