Indianna Carroll, the daughter of former rugby league player Mark “Spudd” Carroll, has established herself as one of the few Australian cheerleaders in the National Football League (NFL). At 28 years old, Carroll is a member of the Las Vegas Raiderettes, making her only the fourth Australian to join an NFL cheerleading squad. She previously spent a decade as a Seabird for the Manly Sea Eagles, highlighting her athletic background before transitioning to American football entertainment.
Carroll’s parents, Mark and Monique Carroll, traveled to Las Vegas in August to attend a Raiderettes trial game against the Arizona Cardinals at Allegiant Stadium. They plan to return later in the year to see her perform again, including at the November 16 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The stadium has also hosted rugby league matches for the past three years, linking Carroll’s past and present sports environments.
Mark Carroll, who played for Penrith, South Sydney, Manly, as well as representing New South Wales and Australia, expressed pride in his daughter’s ability to adapt to life abroad. “She’s living the dream,” he said, describing NFL cheerleading as a more intense and high-profile experience compared to cheerleading in Australian rugby league. He compared it to the challenge of playing international rugby league games weekly, noting the advanced training, energetic crowds, and complex dance routines involved in the NFL.
Indianna has secured a U.S. Green Card, allowing her to live and work in America on an ongoing basis, an important step given the competitive and costly nature of establishing oneself in the U.S. entertainment and sports scene. Mark emphasized her discipline amid the social and professional demands of Las Vegas, noting that while the cheerleaders participate in social events and have encountered celebrities, Indianna remains focused and committed.
Before moving to Las Vegas, Indianna described cheerleading in the United States as a “next level” professional opportunity, with greater exposure and resources than what is typically available in Australia. She characterized herself as a determined and low-profile individual, focused on achieving her goals quietly.
While Mark Carroll continues to familiarize himself with NFL rules and gameplay, he speculated that prominent rugby league stars such as Reece Walsh and Kalyn Ponga might excel as linebackers in American football, underscoring the athletic parallels between the two sports.
Indianna Carroll’s journey exemplifies a unique crossover between Australian rugby league culture and American football entertainment, advancing her career on an international stage and offering a glimpse into the global reach of sports and cheerleading professions.
