Indonesia Expo 2026 is set to provide new scholarship opportunities for Myanmar students through the participation of seven Indonesian higher education institutions. The event will take place on October 30 and 31 at Novotel Yangon Max in Yangon.

The Indonesian universities represented at the expo include Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), BINUS University, Sampoerna University, President University, Universitas Widyatama, Institut Teknologi dan Sains Bandung (ITSB), and Universitas Negeri Malang. In addition, Sekolah Indonesia Yangon (SIY) and Indonesian International School Yangon (IISY) will also take part in the event.

During the expo, university representatives will provide detailed information on academic programs, admission criteria, language of instruction, tuition fees, living expenses, and available support services for international students. A key focus will be on scholarship options aimed at facilitating access for Myanmar students. Highlighting the initiative’s potential impact, a current student at IISY in Yangon has already secured a full scholarship to study at President University for the ongoing academic year, demonstrating a growing pathway for Myanmar students to pursue higher education in Indonesia.

On October 29, prior to the public expo, a program is scheduled to facilitate direct engagement between participating universities and international schools in Yangon to introduce educational opportunities more closely. Furthermore, Universitas Widyatama and the University of Foreign Languages in Yangon are preparing to formalize a cooperation agreement to strengthen academic ties.

Indonesia is home to approximately 6,000 international students enrolled in its universities. Among the top public institutions, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the University of Indonesia (UI) have some of the highest numbers of international enrollees. UGM alone hosts over 1,000 international students.

Fields of study attracting these students include cultural and social studies, economics and management, medicine and dentistry, Indonesian language and culture studies (BIPA), as well as international relations. The expo aims to build on this diversity by expanding access and support for Myanmar students looking to pursue higher education in Indonesia.
