The South Korean production company Next Entertainment World (NEW) announced that an Indonesian film remake of the popular K-drama "Descendants Of The Sun" is set to debut in 2027. Filming for the adaptation has been completed, and the project is currently in post-production, with plans for a theatrical release in both Indonesia and South Korea.

Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, a two-time Best Director award recipient at the Indonesian Film Festival, the remake follows NEW’s earlier collaboration on the Indonesian adaptation of "Miracle In Cell No. 7," which became one of the highest-grossing films in Indonesia. Building on that success, NEW is expanding its global co-production initiatives through this new project.

The Indonesian version of "Descendants Of The Sun" has been tailored to reflect local cultural elements and settings while staying true to the original story’s themes. The film stars Indonesian actors Reza Rahadian and Dian Sastrowardoyo in the lead roles.

On September 6, the director and cast made their first public appearance to introduce the remake during a session titled "Descendants Of The Sun, Localised: When Global Stories Find Local Souls" at IdeaFest in Jakarta.

The original "Descendants Of The Sun" first aired in 2016, focusing on the romantic and professional lives of soldiers and doctors facing adversity in an unfamiliar environment. The South Korean series, led by Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki, achieved significant commercial success with a peak viewership rating of 38.8 percent domestically.
