A 27-year-old Chinese influencer has shared a remarkable account of her recovery nearly 17 months after falling from the 35th floor of a building, prompting widespread attention online. The woman, known by her social media handle @wananan, returned to her account on October 12 to announce what she described as being “reborn through adversity,” reporting significant progress in her rehabilitation.
The incident occurred in June of the previous year in Hunan province, central China. She sustained severe injuries after falling from a great height, including multiple bone fractures, an intracranial hemorrhage, damage to her cervical spine and internal organs, and the loss of her lower right leg. Emergency medical teams at the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University performed a 14-hour surgery to save her life. The patient remained in intensive care for 50 days following the accident.
Dr. Xing Wei, one of the doctors overseeing her treatment, remarked that her recovery exceeded expectations. Apart from the amputation, her other organ functions have largely healed. Medical staff attributed her survival in part to fortunate circumstances: the influencer fell onto a tree and then into bushes, which helped cushion her descent and prevented more fatal injuries.
Prior to the fall, @wananan had established a substantial following with about 100,000 followers, thanks to her appearance and cover singing. Since her return, her follower count has more than doubled to 250,000, and her comeback video has received over 1.7 million likes and more than 1,000 comments.
In her update, she detailed her ongoing rehabilitation regimen and shared plans to be fitted with a prosthetic limb in the near future. Speaking about her outlook, she expressed optimism and determination to live fully despite her physical challenges, stating, “I can still walk to the places I want to go, and if I can’t walk, I’ll just call a taxi.”
Reflecting on her experience, she acknowledged the difficult days marked by intense pain but emphasized the personal growth that arose from her ordeal. “Suffering is not meant to destroy me, but to forge me,” she said, underscoring the value of resilience over glamor in life. She encouraged her followers to focus on what they have gained rather than what they have lost, concluding with the belief that “what is lost will not be lost again.”
The hospital also publicly praised her recovery, expressing pride in witnessing her “rebirth” and gratitude for her willingness to share her journey as a testament to the power of life. Comments from followers echoed similar sentiments of admiration and good wishes, highlighting the extraordinary nature of her survival and recovery.
