A golden retriever was rescued from Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak, after sustaining an injury to its paw. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, prompting a response from the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT).

The dog, weighing approximately 30 kilograms, was accompanied by its owner, who initially treated the injury by bandaging the paw and carrying the dog as far as possible before seeking assistance. The MRT, consisting of 13 members, arrived on the scene and provided further medical attention, including re-bandaging the wound.

The rescue operation took about five and a half hours to complete. After stabilizing the dog, team members carried it down the mountain using a stretcher. The Wasdale team coordinated closely with a stretcher party during the descent to ensure the dog’s safe evacuation.

A spokesperson for Wasdale MRT praised the dog owner’s efforts, noting they had done “a very good job” under challenging circumstances. The operation highlights the preparedness and dedication of local mountain rescue services in responding to emergencies involving both people and animals in difficult terrain.
