Leiston manager Chris Wigger has acknowledged the challenges posed by a series of injuries to key players early in the Southern Premier Central season but remains positive about his team's performance and prospects. The Blues entered the campaign with significant setbacks, including the absence of Joao Rangel due to a pre-season injury. Additional injuries have impacted several squad members, such as Cameron Rayworth, sidelined by a broken toe; Adam Marriott, recovering from a broken rib; and Noel Aitkens, who has only recently returned following a groin strain.

Despite these difficulties, Leiston has managed a solid start, currently positioned within the top ten of the league. Their recent 2-2 draw at Stourbridge, secured through goals by Adam Mills and Eddie Jackson, followed a campaign marked by just one loss in the first four games. The team’s ability to earn points on the road, including after a lengthy six-hour journey to the West Midlands, has impressed Wigger, who commended his players' resilience amid adversity.

“We’d already lost Joao Rangel after his injury during pre-season which was a blow, but the team have shown great resilience to keep going,” Wigger said. Reflecting on the opening fixtures, he noted that while he would have liked to accumulate more points, the club is roughly on track with expectations. “I think we have come out of the first four games okay. I’d liked to have had a few more points on the board, but overall, we are kind of where I thought we might be,” he added.

Looking ahead, the reduction of the injury list offers optimism for improved performances and increased attacking options. Wigger expressed hope that regaining full squad availability would enhance the team's competitiveness as the campaign progresses. The Blues were preparing for upcoming fixtures against Redditch United and local rivals Bury Town at the time of his comments, with an eye toward building on their encouraging start despite early challenges.
