Canterbury Racecourse is set to host an eventful race meeting following a recent preview of key contenders across seven races.

In Race 1, Ballet Encore is anticipated to improve sharply from her last start at Warwick Farm on June 24, where she overcame a poor start to finish fourth behind Zoufame. This outing benefits from a better barrier draw compared to her resuming run. Crossways, who debuted in the same race and finished sixth after challenging outside the leader, holds promise after winning all three lead-up trials, including a dominant final trial by over seven lengths. The horse will start from the inside barrier, which could favor a strong showing. Farfetched, second in that June 24 race, also commands attention. The suggested bet for this opening contest is Ballet Encore each way.

Race 2 features Sanctum, who debuted on June 24 at Warwick Farm, finishing second after encountering interference in the straight behind stablemate Omolong. With experience gained and a similar barrier draw (gate 2), Sanctum is positioned to improve and potentially claim victory. Horologist, who debuted three weeks ago at the same course and finished a close second after settling four back on the fence, is expected to run prominently again. Elio, having delivered consistent performances this preparation, and Helldeeva, a strong first-up winner, also figure in the mix. The recommended bet is for Sanctum to win.

Lady Invictus is the highlight in Race 3 after breaking her maiden with an all-the-way victory at Warwick Farm first-up this campaign. She followed with a strong third placing in a Benchmark 72 race at Rosehill. Other noted runners include Gatwick, who after leading briefly at Echuca was successful back in Sydney at Canterbury, and Raskol, who warrants place consideration. Lady Invictus is favoured to win in this event.

In Race 4, consistent performer Zale returns after a long campaign marked by three consecutive runner-up finishes, including at Canterbury on April 22. The horse secured a determined victory last start at Warwick Farm. New stable entrant Inoue resumes from a spell, showing promise through a recent trial win at Warwick Farm on June 26. Madrina, with a credible second place to Glorious Moments three runs ago, is also noted. Zale is tipped as the likely winner.

Race 5 presents Lipstick, who has shown competitive form, including a near-win behind Ballpark at Canterbury two starts ago and a close second at Randwick. Sister Daae is making a quick return after a solid recent third and a narrow defeat on resumption. Virgil’s Gift steps down in grade following a third-place finish to Cherish Me at Rosehill. The suggested selection in this contest is Lipstick to win.

Existential Bob leads the betting in Race 6 after a strong finish to place second by a head at Kensington over 1400 meters. Despite a below-par effort stepping up to 1800 meters at Rosehill, the horse remains a likely contender. Luskaire, beaten narrowly in two recent runs at Canterbury and Rosehill, is expected to be competitive, while Think I Will arrives in good form with consecutive wins but may be hampered by a wide barrier draw. Existential Bob is favored for this race.

Finally, Race 7 features Steel Strike, resuming as a gelding under new ownership. The runner has placed in three of four starts at distances between 1200 and 1600 meters and was stakes-placed over 1400 meters last campaign. Trial performances have been encouraging. Metaphorically, after pulling up lame on June 3, has since impressed with a two-length trial win at Hawkesbury. Astronomix, third on resumption at Warwick Farm over 1100 meters and expected to benefit from the step up in trip, also warrants mention. Steel Strike is the recommended winner selector for this race.

The race meeting promises competitive fields and opportunities for several runners to enhance their form with key trials and barrier positions influencing outcomes.
