The United Arab Emirates has launched a new inter-emirate train service designed to offer a modern, comfortable alternative to car travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The service, which recently commenced operations, aims to provide a seamless and welcoming journey for passengers while reflecting the country’s focus on hospitality and design.
Departing from Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, the train connects with destinations including Dubai and Fujairah. Passengers are greeted from the outset with a user-friendly ticketing experience, featuring digital kiosks and clear departure information displayed on overhead screens. The station also includes amenities such as multiple cafés and a premium lounge offering comfortable seating for those awaiting departure.
On boarding, travelers are welcomed by attendants in grey uniforms, emphasizing a personalized service. The train’s interior combines modern aesthetics with cultural touches: Arabic coffee, Karak tea, and a selection of chocolates infused with spices and flavors common to Emirati cuisine are offered shortly after boarding. The design incorporates muted tones of grey and blue, with patterned carpets and glass carriage dividers creating a cohesive atmosphere.
The service features two classes. Comfort Class, with fares starting at 39 dirhams, provides padded black seats equipped with charging points, foldable tables, and ample legroom. Premium Class, beginning at 109 dirhams, offers wider light grey seats and more legroom, though the difference in comfort was noted as subtle. Both classes include meal service; breakfast options such as paratha with cheese, a tunacado sandwich, or yoghurt with mango compote are served alongside beverages.
The train travels at speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour, ensuring a swift journey. Despite the velocity, passengers experience a remarkably quiet ride, aided by soundproofing features. Accessibility considerations are evident, with dedicated spaces for wheelchair users and other passengers of determination.
The trip between Abu Dhabi and Al Yalayis Station in Dubai lasts approximately one hour and eight minutes, making it a practical alternative to road travel. Observers note that the train experience goes beyond mere transportation, serving as a symbol of the UAE’s development priorities in infrastructure, hospitality, and cultural integration.
