KUWAIT CITY — Starting Sunday, September 6, Kuwait’s Interior Ministry will introduce a new system for impounding vehicles that incorporates smart home technology. The initiative, led by the ministry’s traffic department, aims to streamline the management of vehicles subject to impoundment by using a device installed directly on the vehicle at the location of the traffic violation.

Under the new procedure, once the device is affixed to a vehicle, the impoundment period will officially commence at midnight on the same day. This timing allows vehicle owners the opportunity to relocate their cars to a designated home location before the impoundment period begins. The system includes a service charge of 10 Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) for installing the device, in addition to a daily ground fee of KD 2 for the vehicle’s stay.

The introduction of the smart home vehicle impound system is part of the ministry’s broader efforts to enhance traffic law enforcement and improve operational efficiency. Officials have indicated that the system will help reduce congestion and administrative costs associated with vehicle impoundment, while allowing for more flexible management of impounded vehicles.
